Soap nuts

Has anyone used soap nuts for washing nappies?  I bought some at UK Aware and I've been using them for clothes and I love them but my babies are out of nappies now.  Please let us know.

Hi! For washing nappies with soapnuts, have a look at this site: http://guidetolivingnaturally.wordpress.com/2011/01/31/washing-cloth-nappies-with-soapnuts/

We usually get our soapnuts from http://www.soapnuts.co.uk/, they were at the UK AWARE show...

I have used them for three years now for all my clothes, I sometimes use shells, sometimes i boil them to make the liquid and sometimes we use the soapnut powder, depending on what I am washing. If it's really smelly dirty clothes I use 300-500ml liquid and pour it into the drum or I use two tablespoons of powder in a sock. I also use their natural stain remover, which I have tried on grass, blood, juice, ketchup, underarm stains and my dry clean only dresses.

At soapnuts.co.uk they have loads of recipes and instructions on how to wash with the soapnuts.

They are so good, especially because with every wash I know I am not polluting the water systems or environment, and more importantly my son has not had any eczema flare-ups since we changed to soapnuts.

  2. I've used soap nuts, too and I wrote a post about it here: http://www.clothnappiesarefun.com/2011/02/soapnuts-natural-alrternative-to.html

I found them better for nappies than detergent, there is no ammonia build-up and the nappies don't smell.
